Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. Her name was chosen by her parents in honor of the town where she was raised as a child. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father had an ethnically Jewish background. The actress is the younger sister of Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. In the year Ryder was only seven her family moved to Mendocino County California. The family was in a house that didn't have electric power. There was no television books were the only way for Ryder to spend the time and she was a voracious reader. Ryder began taking acting classes when Ryder was 12years old at the American Conservatory Theatre. Ryder landed her first film role on the big screen in 1986 aged 15 years old. young.
